That “angelic” chandelier-layered haircut (think 1970s TV star/detective) is having another moment. And it’s bigger and better than ever. Style it with a good, voluminous blow-dry, a couple of large round brushes, some JoiFULL Volumizing Styler, and throw in a couple of Velcro rollers and a curling iron for good measure.

Spiky buns, butterfly clips, zigzag parts, bleached bangs, crimped hair…everything early 90’s is reemerging with a vengeance. And while the looks certainly give us nostalgia vibes, the fun and playfulness is utterly fresh and modern in 2023.

Tall, teased crown hair has had a long history – from the 1950s bouffant beehives favored by First Ladies, to Hollywood’s trademark pulled-back pouf. (In 2008, there was even a plastic gadget – you may have tried to erase this memory – designed to hide under the bump and help levitate things.) With big hair getting hotter by the day, we’re seeing volume at the crown again…and we’ve got the welcome signs out.

THE BOB EVERY WHICH WAY

The lacquered locks of the 20’s embraced this extreme, chin-length cut with well-defined bangs – known for grazing the eyes and framing the face. The 70s liberated the look with a blow-dryer; and the bob’s been playing hide and seek ever since. In 2023, this abbreviated cut is showing up in endless shapes and sizes – boxy and blunt, mid-length, layered, long (“the lob”), bowl cut, and full-on curly.

Thanks to a beloved sitcom, this international hair phenomenon sparked a fever for deliberate, multi-level shag styles. These days, it’s little longer, a little shaggier, and sometimes embellished with curtain bangs. But it’s still brilliant.
