The Ultimate Social-Media Guide: Part 2

Featuring Cynthia Baker, CEO of Saga Haus

No matter how large or small your business, social media has become the career-making tool. These days, it’s not should I? … but how, when, and what should I post. Fortunately, we’ve got all the answers to your questions, thanks to marketing genius, Cynthia Baker, CEO of Saga Haus; in this second installment of our invaluable two-part biz-building series, she shows you how to take your career to the stars in 2023 and beyond.

The importance of social media: a quickie recap…

Sure, having a social-media presence allows you to stay relevant in the community and posting to your target audience leads to more potential clients. But Cynthia dives deeper: “Imagine the social-media concept in a different industry: You’re scrolling through Instagram, and a post showing a beautifully landscaped front yard grabs your attention. You think to yourself, “Those flower beds are exactly what I’ve been wanting!” So you click on the company’s account to find more inspirational posts to save…and, voilà, this landscaping company happens to be in the same city as you!! Now you glance at their bio, and it reads, “DM for a free consultation!” More than likely you’re going to Direct Message (DM), screenshot their Instagram page, and call the number or save it for future reference.”

“All these social steps lead a consumer to make a buying decision based on services and products that align with their wants, needs, and dreams,” she explains. “It’s the same with hair color and hairstyles. Show off your talent to your community (and surrounding areas) and the clientele will flock to your salon or chair. It’s the difference between keeping your chair in demand with a full schedule and having a slow “how am I going to get new clients” year.”

Let’s continue: Cynthia takes you through the final 4 steps today…

✔️ Schedule time for content creation
Ideally, you’ll want to have before-and-after videos and pictures – after all, consumers love seeing a transformation, especially if it’s relatable to their hair texture. Build content creation into your schedule by allocating 15 minutes before the service begins to capture your before, and 15 minutes after the service to capture the final result.

✔️ Don’t forget to edit
Once your content is created, always take time (between client visits, say) to edit your videos and pictures before you post them. You can do this process inside Instagram or TikTok with their in-app editing features, or with a third-party app. (Cynthia loves using Splice).

✔️ Create a monthly calendar
Identify which major and/or national holidays are coming up and use a calendar template to jot them down, creating seasonal content around those days. (Pro tip: Direct Message @saga.haus on Instagram and they’ll send you their calendar template for 2023, filled with ideas to help jump-start social for 2023.)
