The “Cotton Candy Queen” Technique: Hilary Duff’s New Blue ‘Do

“Hilary is no stranger to a fun hair color,” explains Nikki Lee of the mix of sweet blues she and Riawna created for the mother-of-three-to-be. “We’re obsessed with this look! Hilary is goals in many ways, but to be pregnant and rock this color with so much confidence is everything!” – Nikki Lee

A labor of love: “She colored her own hair teal during lockdown. So in order to get this vibrant shade, I had to first prelighten her hair with Joico’s Blonde Life Powder Lightener. Thank God I had my bestie, Riawna Capri, to help me, because we put in what felt like hundreds of foils!”

The birth plan: “After processing, we did a quick pre-tone to kick out any unwanted yellow before applying the blue. This was an important step, as the blue mixed with yellow could have gone green.

Just for kicks: “We then applied the magic…Joico’s Color Intensity True Blue and Mermaid Blue, from roots to midshaft. For her ends, we used Mermaid Blue with a splash of Peacock Green.”
