What’s more, the easy-to-use Defy Damage Pro Series 1 is a dry aerosol spray that is applied in short bursts to dry hair prior to any chemical service. Defy Damage ProSeries 1 Bond-Protecting Color Optimizer Spray will protect bonds in the hair from degradation that occurs during color, lightening, perming, and straightening services.
When processing is complete, he removes lightener using Defy Damage Protective Shampoo, then applies Defy Damage ProSeries 2 Bond-Strengthening Color Treatment for five minutes. Technique:
Work in quadrants, starting with the back
Horizontal alternating weaves and slices to get more ‘POP’ and blonde impact
Smaller foils for shorter hair where you can fold (to avoid risk of overlapping formulas)
Longer foils sandwiched for longer hair with melted application (to avoid overlapping the formulas in a folded foil or creating a crease)
The Front Section
Formula:
Top to Mids: Joico Blonde Life Powder Lightener with 20 Volume LumiShine Developer
Melting into Ends (PreLightened)
Joico Blonde Life Powder Lightener with 5 Volume LumiShine Developer
Technique:
• Diagonal back alternating slices and weaves
• Adjust foil (same as back, sandwich vs fold) based on length of hair
Rinse:
Wash with Defy Damage Protective Shampoo
Glaze (Tone):
LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid 9NWB + 9V + 10SB + CLEAR with 5 Volume LumiShine Developer
(Ricardo’s tip: I use LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid Clear to ensure that the LumiShine Demi-Permanent Liquid 9V doesn’t grab too heavily and to avoid any unwanted violet hues.)
Defy Damage Step 2:
Treat hair with Defy Damage ProSeries 2: Bond-Strengthening Color Treatment at the bowl; let stand for 5 minutes. (Allow to process longer for deeper conditioning.)

4. Detangle with ease, using a detangling brush
